Badrika Ashram

The Crown Jewel of the Char Dham

Badrinath is celebrated as the sacred sanctuary where Lord Vishnu performed penance under the Badri (jujube) tree, while Goddess Lakshmi protected him from harsh snowstorms by taking the form of the tree itself.

The black stone (Saligram) idol of Lord Badrinath sitting in padmasana posture was retrieved from Narad Kund and enshrined here by Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century. Just outside the temple lies Tapt Kund, a natural thermal sulphur spring where pilgrims take a purifying dip before entering the sanctum.

A short 3km drive further leads to Mana Villageβ€”the last Indian village before the Tibet borderβ€”home to Vyas Gufa, where Maharishi Vyas dictated the Mahabharata to Lord Ganesha.
